Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring Cleaning Ideas

Spring has arrived! Have you opened your windows recently to let in natural light and fresh air only to notice your home has become drab and musty over the winter months? Here are a few easy things you can do to freshen up your home for spring.

Microwave—Clean the microwave by mixing ½ cup vinegar and ½ cup water in a bowl. Heat in the microwave until it boils (about 2-3 minutes). Wipe the inside. You’ll be amazed how easily the stains disappear.

Window treatments—For a quick fix, run through the dryer with a wet towel on the air fluff cycle for 15 minutes to remove wrinkles. Dust window blinds with a feather duster.

Windows—Mix together 1/4 cup rubbing alcohol and 1/3 cup vinegar. Put in a 32-ounce spray bottle and fill the rest with water. Spray directly onto a cloth to clean. Use a carpet scrap as a brush to remove dirt and grime from window screens.

Faucets—Remove lime buildup by placing paper towels over the fixture, soak with vinegar. After an hour, the deposits will be soft and easy to wipe away. For a showerhead, fill a plastic bag with vinegar and secure to the showerhead. Let this soak overnight.

Garbage disposal—Sprinkle ½ cup of baking soda down the disposal followed by 1 cup of white vinegar. The mixture will fizz. Wait a few minutes then pour boiling water down the drain. To clean the blades, fill the drain with ice then pour a cup of rock salt or coarse sea salt over the ice cubes. Run cold water and turn on the garbage disposal until the ice is gone. Follow this up by putting pieces of lemon or lime in the disposal. Be sure to run cold water while running the disposal.
